Solar-Powered Trash Compactors

“These new landfill-crunching compacting bins are entirely powered by
the sun and are able to accept close to eight times as much waste as a
regular trash can. Pretty cool, we thought – especially once we found
out that they are calling the new bins Big Bellys and that they stand to save the city close to 12 million dollars over 10 years!”…. Via Inhabitat

Toyota’s 3g Prius Has Solar Panels, Remote Control Air Conditioning

https://i2.wp.com/3.bp.blogspot.com/_mxVVX-SZq6c/SXyROl0ynQI/AAAAAAAABkI/TKrs4ifVsOw/s400/Toyota-Prius-3Gen-2.jpg

“The most energy-efficient Prius yet–50 mpg compared to 46 mpg for the 2009 model–comes with an optional solar panel on the roof to power cabin vent fans. Since the remote control-powered air conditioner is electric, it can run even when the car is off–so a quick trip to the store doesn’t have to mean an oven-like car upon return. Toyota’s new Prius also comes with LED headlights that save 17% of power used by high-intensity low-beam lights”….<More>

Solar Powered Robotic Lawn Mower

“utomower Solar Hybrid is the world’s first fully automatic lawn mower that is partly powered by the sun. Brilliant for your lawn, great for your conscience, better for the planet. The product uses considerably less energy than any conventional mower. That’s because in addition to a charging station, it comes with a large integrated solar panel. When there is daylight available, the solar cells enable the mower to extend its cutting periods before it needs recharging”….

MIT researchers boost the power of solar energ

“Sunlight has the greatest potential of any power source to solve the world’s energy problems, Daniel Nocera, the Henry Dreyfus Professor of Energy at MIT, said in an earlier interview. In one hour, enough sunlight strikes the Earth to provide the entire planet’s energy needs for one year, he added.

The problem, however, is how best to harness that energy”…. <More>

Shiro’s SQ Solar Powered Mp3 Player

“Most of the SQ’s specifications are nothing to shout about, including a 1.8-inch color display, FM tuner and up to 16GB of memory. Its main selling point is the solar panel found on the back which fully charges the device in 4 hours when under the sun. SUN :The World’s First Solar Powered Bluetooth Headset

“Looking back over the years at the Bluetooth headsets I’ve purchased for my own use, I soon realized that they too had gone the way of the hands-free car kit for the same reason–another cord to carry and another device to charge. Ugh.

So, it was with great enthusiasm that I ordered the Iqua SUN for a Portelligent teardown, to see how advances in Bluetooth and integrated solar power could enable a Bluetooth device that may never need to be plugged in”…. <More>

Nanoantennas= Solar Power That Works At Night.

“Developed at the Idaho National Laboratory, the technology could lead to solar power that works at night.
Researchers at the Idaho National Laboratory are looking at solar energy in a new light, developing a flexible plastic sheet of embedded nanoantennas that are able to absorb energy in the infrared band of radiation.

Traditional solar photovoltaic panels absorb the visible light of the sun, but there’s more to the big ball of fire in the sky than just what we can see, and the Idaho lab’s nanoantenna’s could lead to the production of flexible panels that would continue to work day and night”…. <More>

Solared Powered AC and Heater..Mobile Too!

Greencore solar-powered air conditioning photo

“According to the Greencore website , “the amount of AC electricity needed to fully charge the batteries for three hours is less than the energy required for a typical coffee maker”. Sharp TV Gets 100% of Its Power From the Sun

“The TV uses about one-fourth the power and has about one-third the annual energy consumption of a conventional CRT TV with the same screen size. Compared to today´s LCD TVs, the low-power prototype uses about one-third the power, and about one-half the annual energy consumption. This extremely low power consumption allows the TV to be powered from one of Sharp´s triple-junction thin-film solar cell modules, with a surface area of about the same size as the LCD screen. The company plans to market the TV and solar energy system as a combination pair”….<More>

Meet The Laptops You’ll Use in 2015

“In a more speculative vein, in seven years, we just might have 3-D displays that show the world as it really is. This will not only be great for gamers, but it can aid in representing complex data and displaying computer-aided designs.

Such displays could also revamp the way we interact with our desktops. Imagine an on-screen desktop that, rather than a flat expanse, has depth and perspective so that you can hide your list of passwords behind the icon for opening your Web browser”…. <More>
